Micro-CT for Electronics and Fuel Cells
BRUKERS’S SKYSCAN 3D X-Ray Microscopes (XRM) takes high resolution nondestructive imaging of electronics and fuel cells to a new level. SkyScan XRMs provide a level of detail and versatility required for product development or failure analysis. Nanometer scale resolution.
- High contrast on low X-ray absorbing carbon polymer layers for clean segmentations
- Large field of view with high resolution for capturing components on larger boards
- Spiral (helical) scanning mode for exact reconstructions of planar objects
Solder ball connections
One of the most difficult applications for X-ray computed tomography in materials science is solder ball connections on components attached to boards. With the use of a nano-focus X-ray source combined with high energy (160kV), it is possible to capture small voids, cracks, and delamination.
Reverse engineering and failure analysis
Understanding component architecture and assembly is critical for reverse engineering or failure analysis. X-ray tomography provides a way to record the internal structure before any changes are made to the sample either by disassembly, usage, or destructive techniques like sectioning required for electron microscopy.
Batttery inspection
Through the use of the novel spiral (helical) scanning reconstruction algorithm, the SKYSCAN tomographs deliver high quality images across flat, planar surfaces that can be a source of distortion of other micro-CTs.
Component comparison
Component comparisons to CAD or known references provide key metrics for understanding the performance of the manufacturing process and the resultant material performance. The SkyScan image data can be seamlessly integrated into all the major modeling and simulation programs offered on the market.
