Micro-CT for Composites Research
BRUKER SKYSCAN X-ray computed tomographs are pushing the boundaries of high resolution nondestructive imaging of polymers and composites. SkyScan Micro-CTs meet the 3D high-resolution and versatility required for any demanding research laboratory.
- Nano-meter scale resolution
- High contrast on low X-ray absorbing carbon fibers and polymer layers
- Large field of view for capturing fiber bundles and representative sampling
- Quantitative analysis for fiber analysis and orientation
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic
One of the most difficult applications for X-ray computed tomography in materials science is imaging carbon fibers due to the X-ray absorbing element and the submicron scale of the fibers. The SkyScan systems successfully achieve imaging carbon fibers through the use of nano-CT scanning and X-ray source / detector pairing that optimize contrast.
Failure analysis and delamination
Through the use of the latest detection architecture, the SKYSCAN tomographs deliver high quality images of metal or ceramic implants in bone with minimized artifacts, allowing analysis of osseointegration or quantifying scaffold porosity,
Porosity analysis
Pore size, pores size distribution, and pore orientation are key metrics for understanding the performance of the manufacturing process and the resultant material performance. Through the use of the CTAN quantitative analysis program these measures can be made on your samples.
Failure analysis in composites
Bruker SkyScan micro-CTs support research to quantify failure analysis of composite laminates with high resolution images.
